About The NDSG
The National Democracy Stakeholders Group (NDSG) was established in response to the challenges faced by democracy in Nigeria, particularly the need to institutionalize citizens’ role in governance. Born out of the first National Democracy Stakeholders Summit in 2010, NDSG’s formation was a significant milestone in Nigeria’s political history, which had been marked by political instability including coups and counter-coups, disrupting the first three republics..
Democracy in Nigeria saw a rebirth on May 29th, 1999, with the onset of the fourth republic. Celebrating a decade of uninterrupted democracy in 2009, a coalition led by Da Soul Group and under the umbrella of the Pan African Global Development Agency – Save the Future of the African Child (SFAC) – convened to mark this occasion. This group later received official endorsement from the Federal Ministry of Information and the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) for its programs, solidifying its role in the democratic process.
The National Democracy Stakeholders Group, thus, stands as a public governance association aiming to create an inclusive, non-partisan platform for genuine citizen participation in governance. It represents a collective commitment to the maturation of democratic institutions and the establishment of a governance framework that ensures government accountability and citizen participation in Nigeria.
