What We Do

At the National Democracy Stakeholders Group (NDSG), we believe in the power of participation to shape a democracy that truly reflects the will of the people. Our commitment is to bridge the gap between governance and citizenry, ensuring that every voice is not only heard but also valued in the decision-making process. Democracy thrives when the people own it, and at NDSG, we dedicate ourselves to making this ideal a reality for all Nigerians.

Public Education

In the NDSG, our focus on public education encompasses the promotion of leadership education and ethical nation-building within the framework of democracy. This is encapsulated in our Advocacy & Awareness mandate, which involves identifying issues, developing solutions, garnering support, and aligning solutions and political will to drive desired changes. It also entails mainstreaming public participation in democracy, electoral education, and the comprehensive monitoring and evaluation of democracy, governance, development matters, and the rule of law. Our advocacy mandate, essentially a public education platform, serves as a catalyst for change, providing tools, voice, and platforms for our members and stakeholders to influence positive societal transformations.

Technical Collaborations

Our broad technical collaboration involves fostering capable associations and engagements with relevant institutions dedicated to democratic growth, culturally and otherwise. This collaboration offers a unique working relationship with governments to support the successful implementation of programs spanning good governance and developmental tendencies. The technical collaboration opportunities we provide aim to supply subject expertise for sustainable solutions, contributing to self-reliance in Nigeria.

Building Capacity and Strengthening Institutions

At NDSG, our ongoing capacity building and institutional strengthening initiatives support individuals, groups, organizations, and state and non-state actors in enhancing their ability to identify and address development challenges. This involves senior executive workforce training, knowledge management system implementation, and similar strategies tailored to elevate key democratic institutions. The goal is to improve operational, financial, and organizational maturity and sustainability, facilitating measurable advancements in fulfilling an organization’s mission effectively and efficiently.

Planned, Managed, and Implemented the Nigeria Democracy Week

NDSG spearheads the Nigeria Democracy Week, featuring activities such as the Democracy Transition Anniversary Walk (DETRAW), the National Democracy Stakeholders Summit & Democrat Award, Nigeria Legislative Exchange Conference (LEC), Nigeria Constitution Society Symposium, Talking Point on the Nigeria Election, Parties Leadership and Governance Summit (PALGOS), Youth Open Dialogue on Democracy, and Women Open Dialogue on Democracy.

Grants Support for Various Institutions

To bridge funding gaps for local institutions promoting democracy, good governance, and the rule of law, NDSG established the Nigeria Democracy Fund (NIDEF). This fund aims to strengthen democratic civil society organizations and facilitate regional networking and people-to-people exchange of experiences among civil society and community-based organizations in Nigeria and other African countries.

Advance the Frontier of National Integration

NDSG creates diverse national integration programs fostering unity and togetherness among people irrespective of caste, creed, religion, or gender. These initiatives aim to instill a sense of oneness, brotherhood, and social unity, contributing to national progress and prosperity despite diversities.

Research and Development

Research and development at NDSG are integral to our endeavors. Our approach focuses on collating data, analyzing information, and creating new ideas and development concepts that align with the organization’s programmatic values. It extends beyond technological breakthroughs to encompass researching issues pivotal to deepening democracy and innovating tools for good governance and national development.

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E)

As a key democratic instrument, our patriotic mandate involves overseeing public institutions through an open access system, ensuring operational integrity, transparency, accountability, and probity within Nigeria’s pluralistic democratic system. Through constitutional means, we pursue parliamentary watch, executive oversight, and adherence to the rule of law. Our M&E mandate involves various forms of monitoring, including process, compliance, context, beneficiary, financial, administrative, results, and evaluation. This ensures the effectiveness of international, national and community programs and enables us to make comprehensive recommendations to the Government and the citizenry.
